Smart Grant is oriented towards funding of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) for getting themselves engaged in strategically important areas of science, engineering and technology so as to generate new products, processes and services. The R &D Grants are intended at stimulating the economic growth of the U.K. The Research and Development grants are available under the following three categories.

·         Proof of Market Grant facilitates assessment of the commercial viability of project that may last up to nine months, with the maximum grant limit of £25k and 60% of the total project cost
·         Proof of concept grant facilitates exploration of the technical and commercial viabilities of the project intended for Research and Development funding. The maximum grant allowable is £100k or 60% of the project cost and can last up to 18 months
·         Development and prototype Grant facilitates development of technologically innovative product, service or industrial process. The maximum limit of this Innovation grant funding is £250k and up to 35% of the project cost and can last up to 2 years.
